The results from the previous two experiments indicated that the presence of a mature tube promotes the cell motility of the plasmodium. To understand the mechanism of these phenomena, we observed how cytoplasmic streaming in the tube, the activity inside the cell, is changed with the maturation of the tubular structure. In this experiment using 1 mg of the plasmodium, though the weight and the volume of cell is constant, flow rate of the cytoplasmic streaming was increased according to the length of tube (Fig. 13). The cytoplasmic streaming in the plasmodium is alternate flow, and it is cyclic. We evaluated the total amount of flow based on a half cycle, and as a result we found that there is linear relationship between the amount of flow and the tube length (Fig. 14).
